Etowah Water Tower
The city of Hendersonville completed its plans to demolish and remove the water tower and three system boosting pump stations on Tuesday, March 19th. This had been the final part of the timeline for the Etowah Water Improvements Project, more information can be found at this link.
The Etowah Lions recorded its fall on Tuesday, March 19, a video of its final moments can be found at this youtube link. You can also read about the history of the water tower on this page of the Etowah NC Heritage website.
Etowah Park
The Friends of Etowah Park met with Chris Todd, Henderson County Development and Business Manager, and Bruce Gilliam, Director of Parks & Recreation, on Wednesday, March 20th, to discuss the status and timeline for implementing the North Carolina Parks and Recreation Trust Fund (PARTF) grant to “Redefine Etowah Park.” Mr. Todd presented the slides found by clicking this link.
One of the attendees shared the following summary of the meeting in the Preserve Etowah Valley FB Group:
“I was able to attend yesterday's meeting and felt it was a good step toward the county hearing what our community is looking for at Etowah Park. Ward was able to share the information gathered from visiting other parks (Jackson Park, Mills River Park, and the newer park in Brevard). And Annette shared a few points of interest from the survey that was sent out.
Bruce and Chris shared some ideas and renderings of how the new playground equipment could look; placement for exercise equipment around the walking path; location of the pickleball courts; and the universal court located in Edneyville that they think would be a good fit for Etowah Park. Both Bruce and Chris seemed very interested in hearing what the community would like to see put in place and said they would be happy to meet again to further discuss the project.
I was sure to bring up the point that most working people aren’t able to attend meetings during the traditional work day, so they plan to schedule the next meeting sometime in the following few weeks after hours. Once that meeting is set, I’m sure the information will be shared within this group and beyond.”

A follow-up meeting has been scheduled for April 11th at 6:00 pm at the Lions Den (447 Etowah School Rd.) The agenda will cover an updated overview of the project components and budget. We will then discuss the sports courts, exercise and playground equipment. To gauge how many people will attend, please RSVP for this event here (registration requires a FB account.)
EVPS wants to continue to provide you with information about our community, our county, and our state of activities that affect our town. If you would like to help continue to report these kinds of stories, please let us know. We have learned over the past year that there are some excellent researchers in Etowah.
