Etowah Sewer System
Henderson County approved the formation of an advisory committee for the Etowah Sewer System at its September 3rd meeting. At its September 19th meeting, the Board of Commissioners will be voting on a proposed amendment to the county code setting up a Charter and Bylaws for the Etowah Sewer Advisory Committee. Key functions of the committee will be:
Reviewing, assisting in the development of, and commenting on plans for the repair, upgrade, and operation of the Etowah Community Sewer System.
Reviewing and commenting on the budget for the Sewer, and the rates to be charged for the same.
Acting as a liaison between the County, the Sewer, and the community which it serves.
Advising the Board of Commissioners on the matters with which it is charged, including an annual written report
The Committee shall consist of five members serving 4 year terms selected by the Board of Commissioners. EVPS is approaching neighborhoods and local businesses using the sewer system to encourage residents to self-nominate and represent the broader Etowah community. Additional details on the self-nomination process will be provided as they become available.

Etowah Valley Golf and Resort
The Etowah Valley Golf and Resort issued a statement on Friday, September 13th, the full text of this statement is as follows:
Follow up to Etowah Press Release dated September 3, 2024
The current owners of Etowah Valley Golf and Resort, WNC Resort Properties are committed to transparency in promoting the sale on the open marketplace as well as plans for upcoming changes in the resort’s operations.
We will transition our golf offering from 27 holes to 18 holes. We will reconfigure the north course to a 4 hole practice course. This, along with our driving range and putting green, will create a premier practice facility for members and guests. The 4 hole course, complete with forward tees, will be developed for children. This will make it the only family friendly golf course in Western North Carolina.
Our lodging operations will now exclusively provide long term guest accommodations. We are grateful for the groups who have supported our stay and play packages for the past 50 years. We encourage these groups to continue enjoying our golf courses and to explore local hotel and Airbnb options for their stays. Our golf professionals will continue to work with group leaders to accommodate their golfing needs.
Additionally, we will rebrand Etowah Valley Golf & Resort to become a member focused, semi-private golf club named Etowah Valley Golf Club. Zeke’s Greenside Grill will be renamed Greenside Grill & Patio.
Our upcoming membership campaign will emphasize affordability and encourage family memberships. This will include access to the new 4 hole loop course, practice facilities, a heated outdoor pool and professional golf instruction.
The Etowah Valley Preservation Society (EVPS) welcomes these proposed changes. We encourage local neighborhoods to purchase annual memberships. If the community wants to have this property remain a golf course, we strongly believe that the community needs to support this business, rather than expend time, money and effort discouraging development we do not support.
Community Meeting
An Etowah community meeting will be held early October to bring the community up to date. Topics will include the golf club, the sewer system, incorporation, and the Etowah Park. We will also show the 2045 Plan "Character Areas" of Etowah and explain what they mean. This will be a forward looking meeting.
